BRUNSWICK -- Two local fire departments are dealing with an embarrassing blow after two volunteer firefighters, who are also brothers, have been arrested for a night of vandalism and starting a fire.
Police accuse 19-year-old Brett Blanck, a volunteer with the Center Brunswick Fire Company, and his brother Dale Blanck of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department of being fire bugs.
According to State Police, the Blancks, along with an 18-year-old friend, were out on a night spray-painting signs and fences in Grafton and Brunswick on August 4th. Sometime during that night, the trio also torched a recliner chair in Brunswick that someone had left on the curb.
All three were arrested and charged with criminal mischief and 5th degree arson.
The Center Brunswick Assistant Fire Chief could not tell NEWS10 whether or not Brett Blanck was still on the job after the arrested and arson charge. As for Dale Blanck, his Chief was shocked when NEWS10 told him about the charges.
He said he knew Dale Blanck had been on probation for another unknown crime, but did not know about this recent arrest.
He insisted Dale Blanck is a good firefighter and that he remains on the job, for now.
